About this experience

Enjoy and learn the fascinating ancient history of henna tattoos and how to create your own stunning designs. Participants will also learn through step-by-step instructions, how to make henna paste from scratch and roll cone applicators. After the presentation and demonstration on how to apply simple traditional Indian henna designs, participants will practice designs either on themselves or a template. 

Come with an open mind and learn this ancient and calming art practice of body art. 

All participants will receive their own supply kit to take home. Light refreshments will be served.

Age restrictions: 10 years and older, under 17 must be accompanied by an adult workshop participant.

In the event that the minimum participant threshold is not met, the class will be canceled and a full refund of your fee will be provided.

Sharmila Karamchandani is a multi-creative individual with a passion for design and arts education. She is a Graphic Design professor at the Corcoran School of Art and Design; facilitates Expressive Arts workshops at Heard, which works with vulnerable populations in Virginia; teaches entrepreneurship at Empowered Women International; teaches English at Fairfax County Public schools in a Family Literacy program; teaches Calligraphy and Henna workshops at the Smithsonian Studio Arts and conducts many other customized art workshops in the community. She is also the founder of Khush Designs which offers customized graphic design, marketing, and web solutions for clients locally and online. Her insatiable, creative experimentation and command of multiple media are evident in her work. She works in several mediums such as painting, jewelry design, photography, calligraphy, henna painting, mixed media collages, and fiber arts.
